We are very pleased to announce that we have finally received shipments of ANANSI BOYS: The Limited Edition
from the printer in Poland. We are now in the process of shipping these books out.
Our customers will receive both the slipcased limited edition of ANANSI BOYS and the additional volume, The Notebooks.
The limited edition is a truly beautiful work. It is quarter-bound in a black calfskin leather, with a black Japanese linen on
the rest of the cover. An engraved medallion, made of a burled wood, is inset into the front cover of the book. We think you
will agree that the beauty and quality of this edition make the long wait worthwhile.
In our last update, we advised our customers that we had decided against shipping The Notebooks separately (given
that they had arrived earlier). The reason for this is that the black matte finish on the Notebooks is easily scuffed.
Our production specifications for the ANANSI BOYS Limited Edition had always stated that the slipcase would hold
both the limited edition and The Notebooks volume. We were understandably upset, then, when the finished books
arrived and we found that the printer had not allowed for the inclusion of The Notebooks in the slipcase.
Here's how we're handling this situation: first, we have already begun to ship to our customers the limited edition
and The Notebooks volume. This is happening right now. They will be wrapped together in a burgundy silk ribbon (as seen in photo).
At the same time, we are in the process of producing what we call the Big Slipcase. This is a large slipcase that will hold
both the limited edition (in its own slipcase, of course) and The Notebooks volume. The Big Slipcase features two spacers
that ensure that The Notebooks volume is displayed flush with the limited edition.
We've posted more photos so you can see what it looks like.
We will be receiving these Big Slipcases as they're produced (in weekly installments). We will ship to our customers
each Big Slipcase as it comes in. We expect to be finished with this entire process within the next two months.
We are taking the extra steps to create and ship the Big Slipcases to you, our customers, because we promised you an
all-inclusive package from the beginning.
It has been a long time since we first announced ANANSI BOYS—and our customers have been incredibly
patient. We have learned through this process, however—and the most important lesson is that we will never
again produce our books outside of the U.S. Printing in the U.S. is a more expensive process, but it is more than
made up for by the fact that delivery, accountability, and communications are far easier than with China or Poland.
To be sure that everyone gets their copy, we've set up a separate Gmail-based
account for confirmation—the address is:
anansilimited@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
Peter Schneider & Pete Atkins, Hill House
